What is a doula?

A doula provides non-medical support to women and their families during pregnancy, labor, and the postpartum period. Birth doulas are very knowledgeable about the birthing process, and work with moms and their partners during pregnancy to prepare for the birth. The doula then provides continuous physical and emotional support during labor, birth, and immediately postpartum.

Women have been helping each other through childbirth for thousands of years. Pregnancy, childbirth, and breastfeeding are womanly arts that deserve respect and loving support from other women in the community.

My personal philosophy about birth:

I trust birth, and I trust women. When I attend a birth, my main focus is on the experience of birth for the mother, her partner, and her family. Each woman comes into her labor with a unique vision of her ideal birth and I work to help women achieve as much of that vision as possible. I encourage all moms to trust their bodies and to get as much information as they can about childbirth so that they can make informed decisions about their care. I can help guide you through your options; but you are in complete control and I support whatever choices you make. Each woman's birth is unique to her. So no matter what your birth plan entails, I'd love to support you and whoever else you choose to include in this special event.

I'm happy to support women and families from all walks of life (single moms, married and unmarried couples, teen moms, moms over 40, military families, LGBTQ women/couples, differently-abled women, women planning to give up their baby for adoption, surrogate moms etc...).
